Throughout December, extension educators from four universities across the country collaborated to provide dairy genomics workshops for producers, veterinarians and allied industry.

The workshops were held in Idaho, Washington, Texas and Florida. Each session included an introduction to the genomics of fertility. Presenters from the University of Idaho, the University of Florida, Texas A&M and Washington State University provided insight into ongoing research that is looking into possible genetic markers for fertility and how the results might be able to help producers improve reproductive decision-making.

The research and the informative workshops are made possible by a collaborative USDA NIFA AFRI grant between the hosting universities. Presenters will return to the same locations they visited in December when the research work associated with this grant is finished in order to explain the findings and its practical application on-farm.

In the video below, hear from Dale Moore, director of veterinary extension at Washington State University, as she recaps recent workshops across the U.S. and describes ongoing research to improve the use of genomics on-farm. PD
