Divco trucks stole the show inthe Dairy Day parade, held on June 29in Hendersonville, North Carolina.The trucks are all privately ownedby members of the Divco Club ofAmerica.

According to the club’s website,Divco’s history hearkens back to1922 when George Bacon, the chiefengineer for the Detroit ElectricVehicle Company, designed a new milkdelivery truck. Battery power, however,was not up to the task of dealing withthe cold Midwestern winters. WhenBacon’s employer decided againstbuilding a gasoline-powered vehicle,Bacon and other investors formed theDetroit Industrial Vehicle Company(DIVCO). The final Divco trucks werebuilt in 1986.

Participants in the parade camefrom Pennsylvania, Tennessee,Virginia and North Carolina. It wasthe first time the club had been to thispart of the country.
