The Pennsylvania Soybean Board has awarded a $5,000 grant to the Center for Dairy Excellence to reprint the “Something to Treasure” brochure. Originally produced in 2011, the educational piece showcases the many contributions dairy farm families make to their local communities and economy. More than 30,000 copies of the brochure were distributed in the past 12 months.

“The brochure demonstrates the vital role dairies play in Pennsylvania’s rural communities through economic revenue, environmental stewardship and as a local food source – contributions that are very important to the public,” said John Frey, executive director of the Center for Dairy Excellence.

“More than 20 percent of the soybean meal from Pennsylvania is used by dairy cows," said Daryl Alger, president of the Pennsylvania Soybean Board. "We are pleased to have this opportunity to help promote the dairy industry.”

Copies of the full-color “Pennsylvania’s Dairy Farmers: Something to Treasure in Your Community” tri-fold brochure is available at no cost to farmers, agribusiness members, civic leaders and others who want to educate the general public about the dairy industry.

The brochure could be used at farm tours, dairy princess promotions, community events or as part of scheduled presentations. It could also be made available at visitor centers and other community meeting places.  PD
