Attendees were welcomed by one of the largest exhibitor shows in recent history and a wide range of classes to meet the needs of Idaho’s expanding forage industry.
One of the key aspects of the conference was to address the more volatile nature of the recent hay market and making sure contracts are set and honored by all parties.
Recent income problems with the dairy industry and downturn in the beef market have left several hay growers throughout the area well aware that a higher level of professionalism and scrutiny might be necessary to receive payment in the years ahead.
Grower conversations also centered on upcoming opportunities with the possible re-release of Roundup Ready alfalfa and other potential genetic alfalfa improvements that have been delayed while waiting for the issue of genetically modified plants to be resolved in the courts.
Most see it as a positive development and many are waiting to add these improvements to their growing arsenal.
