The Idaho Water Users Association (IWUA) midyear meeting in June highlighted significant water management challenges and innovative solutions in the Treasure Valley.

For the first time, Ag Proud – Idaho offered three scholarships for Idaho’s high school seniors pursuing a career in agriculture. This initiative reflects Ag Proud – Idaho’s firm belief in the future of agriculture and a commitment to supporting the next generation of ag professionals.

A long-term vision came to life on Feb. 20 with the grand opening of the Idaho Center for Plant and Soil Health, which replaces aging and dilapidated infrastructure at the University of Idaho’s (U of I) Parma Research and Extension Center.

Alfalfa seed demand nationally has been declining gradually for the past 15 years, impacted largely by the dairy industry which moved to alternative feed sources (in part) as alfalfa prices climbed and freight rates rose.

The 2023 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, concluded in early November, with several noteworthy achievements from Idaho students.

"Currently farmers are tasked with finding a home for used drip tape; sometimes it gets piled up, sometimes it goes to the landfill. Better equipment is being used now that can help get the mud out of the tape, but we still need to find appropriate avenues to utilize the used tape."

Doug Gross specializes in all things potatoes on his Wilder farm. “We learned early that there were some things I wasn’t good at and shouldn’t be growing,” he says. Rather than doubling down on those weaknesses, he focused on his strengths.

Huston Vineyards, a second-generation family farm, vineyard and winery, has been named the 2023 Idaho Winery of the Year by Great Northwest Wines.
