At the 96th National Black & White Holstein Show, 4-year-old Jacobs Windbrook Aimo, owned by Ferme Jacobs of Cap-Santé, Quebec, won both Grand Champion and Supreme Dairy Champion. Ferme Jacobs also won Reserve Grand Champion, Breeder’s Herd, Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor, making it a very special year for the Jacobs family.
Other grand champions included: Red and White Holstein Junior 3-year-old Antia Absolute Joline from Milk Source LLC in Kaukauna, Wisconsin; 4-year-old Jersey cow Esperanza Ga Vivian from Rivendale Farms of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and 3-year-old Ayrshire cow Vieux Village BK Jewel owned by Florent, Vicky and Bianca Foley from Piopolis, Quebec.
The TD 4-H Classic showcased 351 4-H’ers showing six dairy breeds: Holstein, Jersey, Ayrshire, Guernsey, Brown Swiss and Milking Shorthorn. Madison Dyment from Burgessville, Ontario, took home the title of Grand Champion Showperson, and the Junior Champion was shown by Justin Velthuis from Metcalfe, Ontario, with his Holstein summer yearling, Winright V Doorman Bubbly.
Well-deserved award recipients included: Kevin Jacobs, Andrea Crowe Memorial Award; Roger Turner, Donald Dubois Showmanship Award; Don Chalack, Curtis Clark Achievement Award; Rebecca Stockdale, Justin Parish Memorial Bursary; and Raechel Chalton, Bertram and Hazel Stewart Dairy Youth Education Award and Bursary.
The Sale of Stars 2018 took in an average of $11,468 for Holsteins and $7,654 for Jerseys.
This year’s Royal Agricultural Winter Fair once again wowed the crowds and continued to demonstrate the passion and determination of dairy breeders and spectators alike.
