Mecham is originally from Rangely, Colorado. She was born with a love of animals that grew as she helped with her great-uncle’s cattle. She nurtured this love of agriculture as she participated in 4-H and FFA.
A junior at Utah State University, Mecham is studying English literature and communication studies. Her favorite class has been her farm literature class where students discussed how agriculture has been represented in media throughout human history. “I love studying literature, but it was really amazing to be able to combine two of my passions,” says Mecham. “Most English majors know very little about agriculture, but this class helped me to see that my passion for literature does not need to be kept separate from my passion for agriculture.”
“We’re excited to have Kaylee join our team in Idaho this summer,” Lynn Jaynes, managing editor of Ag Proud – Idaho says. “Kaylee has an easy friendliness and love of agriculture, literature and learning, which is an uncommon blend of skills we’re excited to explore with her. We are confident her assets will be an advantage to our team and look forward to working with her.”
Mecham is thrilled to have this opportunity to connect to new people and develop her skills as a writer and editor. She would like to thank everyone at Progressive Publishing for helping her feel so welcome, all her teachers and professors who continued to encourage her, and her friends and family who are always by her side.
