Aurora Organic Dairy, a U.S. provider of quality retailer brand organic milk and butter, has issued its first Corporate Citizenship Report. The report establishes a 2012 baseline on sustainability metrics and provides a comprehensive look at the dairy’s unique vertically integrated business model, as well as its standards for sustainability and social responsibility.
As the company’s inaugural report, it outlines one- and five-year goals for sustainability metrics, such as greenhouse gas emission reductions, energy use, water, solid waste and recycling. It also reports on important social responsibility metrics, such as animal welfare goals, employee welfare and community support.
“This report is the culmination of five years of data gathering and management that started with our 2008 partnership with the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources,” says dairy Chairman and CEO Marc Peperzak. “We have built on that research, and now have a comprehensive sustainability tracking tool, and management-level, company-wide working groups to establish and reach our goals around corporate citizenship.
“We have included a complete view of our business in this inaugural report to demonstrate how our integrated business model, and focus on quality, sustainability, animal care, employee welfare and community support all work in harmony to ensure we grow responsibly.”
To ensure the report is consistent with leading standards for CSR reporting, the company says it is a GRI G3 – C Level report with food processing supplement disclosures. A full GRI appendix is available at the end of the report. PD
