A company using soybean oil to replace petroleum-based toner in printer cartridges will test its latest soy-based replacement product this summer on U.S. livestock operations. SoyPrint's new soy-based insecticide is made from 95 percent soy products at various stages of refinement and is non-toxic and not harmful to livestock. It kills with effectiveness most exoskeleton insects that come in contact with it.
Greenlaw says his company and its research collaborators have spent $50,000 to research the soy-based insecticide "cocktail" and its efficacy in laboratory settings for the past several years. The results, he says, are promising and warrant taking the next step – on-farm trials.
The company is looking for dairies interested in helping on-farm test the product this summer. If interested in learning more about it and possibly participating in the trials, contact SoyPrint's Rick Greenlaw at rick@printrecovery.com or (877) 261-3909 ext. 101. PD
