Local dairy checkoff staffs are taking a proactive, comprehensive, integrated approach to sharing results, highlighting the dairy recommendations with health and wellness partners, industry leaders and other marketplace partners. Here are some examples:
Oregon Dairy and Nutrition Council
The Oregon Dairy and Nutrition Council activated social media channels and partner networks to share this endorsement of dairy and will continue to build confidence in dairy among its audiences.
Dairy Council of California
Dr. Lori Hoolihan and Ashley Rosales, RDN, authored blog posts about the guidelines for the Dairy Council of California’s website that included tips for health professionals.
The blogs also were shared in a special dietary guidelines e-newsletter sent to customers, health professionals, partners and industry members throughout California.
Southeast United Dairy Industry Association
SUDIA provided information about the guidelines in its January issue of Dairy Promotion News and in email updates to farmers and industry colleagues in nine states. SUDIA included an article in the MilkPro Digest, which goes to dairy processors, and featured the news in its social media channels and blog posts.
Midwest Dairy Association
Joanne Slavin, Ph.D., RD, who served on the 2010 guidelines advisory committee, contributed a guest post to MDA’s Dairy Makes Sense blog. MDA’s spring consumer-directed media campaign will focus on the guidelines and include a tie-in to Fuel Up to Play 60.
Slavin also will deliver a guidelines presentation at the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics annual meetings in Arkansas, Kansas and Minnesota.
Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association
Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association developed a social media plan to promote dairy’s role in a nutritious diet as noted in the guidelines. Additionally, Mid-Atlantic created educational handouts to be distributed at upcoming Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics state meetings.
