Please describe your agricultural background.
Before coming to QLF, I had worked in the feed industry, extension and as a dairy producer. This rich combination 
of experience allows me to communicate with producers and nutritionists as well.

What education are you bringing with you to this position?
I received my master’s degree from Michigan State University in dairy nutrition and a bachelor of arts degree in agriculture from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa.

What territory will you cover?
I will be covering Wisconsin and parts of Minnesota.

What are your new responsibilities?
In my new position, I will be the dairy technical service manager for Wisconsin and parts of Minnesota. My role is to assist dairy producers in maximizing the potential of liquid feeds in their dairy rations. Liquid feeds are an integral part of precision feeding. Ration conditioning, precise additive feeding and sugar supplementation are all integral to modern dairy feeding programs.

Why did you choose to leave extension/education and work in the private sector instead?
When I re-entered the private sector, I wanted to go with a feed company that was growing, had a reputation for high-quality products and could supply a product that fit into every dairy ration. The last 10 years of research have shown that sugar is an integral part of dairy rations. My role is to help producers and nutritionists implement this research onto their farms.

How will you be of most help to producers in your region or area of expertise?
I will be most helpful to producers in my region because of the experience I bring to the position. Working as a producer for four years and as a nutritionist for six years, allows me to help producers implement the paper ration into their feeding system.

There is no doubt balancing rations is a critical part of the feeding management system; however, this must be combined with the rest of the feeding system, including feeder training, forage and bunker management, and mixer operation.

My years in extension have taught me that research does matter, and I am looking forward to bringing the research of liquid feeds to the farm gate.
