The 28th Annual New York Farm Show, Feb. 21-23 at the NYS Fairgrounds in Syracuse, will be packed with new products and services from more than 400 exhibitors, as well as workshops and presentations from various industry groups. “These organizations have dedicated a lot of time and effort to provide high quality programs for the show visitors,” said show manager Scott Grigor. Programming includes a mini-seminar update on robotic milking, scheduled for Friday, Feb. 22.

John Baker, DeLaval's U.S. lead on voluntary milking systems, will share the latest on DeLaval's VMS system.

Baker will be backed by George Haier, of Haier Dairy at Eden, New York, who converted his freestall barn to VMS last year and did away with his old pipeline system, raising his dairy's average to 70 pounds of milk per cow per day.

Lely Regional Manager Alfred Kamps will lead discussions on how the Astronaut system has changed and improved, as well as what dairy farmers can look forward to in the next year.

John Wolf of Lyons, New York, will talk about his experience with Lely robots at his dairy, Maple Lawn Farms. Wolf and his wife Roberta installed five Lely A3s in 2008 and another two in 2009.

The New York Farm Show will also feature a fundraising auction to benefit the New York FFA. The Robert Watson Memorial Toy Auction will be in the Empire Room of the Arts and Homes Building.

The Empire Room will once again feature a buffet lunch throughout the show for the public to enjoy.

“It’s the premier indoor farm show in the Northeast and an opportunity to showcase the agricultural industry,” Grigor added.

Show hours are 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily. Admission to the show is $5 at the door and children under 18 are free. Free parking and bus shuttles are available. PD
