Cheryl A. Carr Regional Sales Manager – Northeast Waterloo, New York Accelerated Genetics
Please describe your agricultural background.
My agricultural background is primarily tied to the dairy industry. Through my previous employment with Wadhams Enterprises Inc. I had an opportunity to work with various co-ops in the Northeast.
These included Dairy Marketing Services, Agrimark, Cayuga Marketing Group and Dairylea in addition to working with numerous processing plants, such as Chobani Foods, Dean Foods, HP Hood, Byrne Dairy and Great Lakes Cheese.
What territory will you cover?
I will be responsible for 15 states in Northeastern U.S. including: Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia and Florida.
What are your new responsibilities?
I will be responsible for sales growth in the Northeast.I am fortunate to be inheriting a knowledgeable team of district sales managers and will be working very closely with them to develop strategic growth plans within each state. We will be working hard to promote the many successes that the company has had over the years.
We seem to be one of the best kept secret in the Northeast and I am hoping to change thatthrough various means like advertising in regional publications, trade show participation and by simply knocking on doors of producers that may not be familiar with our products or our distinguished history in the genetics industry.
What previous positions have you held?
Prior to coming on board with Accelerated Genetics, I was President of Advanced Practical Design, a consulting company that provided hands-on support to various industries throughout the U.S.
Prior to that, I worked as a director of sales for Wadhams Enterprises Inc. I was responsible for $45 million annual sales in the Northeast and was successful in implementing new processes within my sales team to drive accountability, as well as develop sales goals to improve the profitability of the company.
Who has made the biggest impact on your career?
I have had many positive influences on my career. The most influential would be Earl T ‘Red’ Wadhams, the founder of Wadhams Enterprises. Through hard work and word of mouth, he grew a one truck milk hauling operation in 1949 (picking up 100 lb. cans of milk) to what it is today – a $90 million, 400 truck operation.
His motto was: work hard, be honest and do things for other people. He truly lived by those words. I learned a lot from his management style – particularly the way he listened to his customers (and his employees) and applied a common sense approach to solving problems.
How will you be of most help to producers in your region or area of expertise?
I would like to bring more exposure to the programs that this company has to offer. In addition to having a very strong line-up of bulls, we also have many other comprehensive programs that have been gaining momentum in the mid-west and helping producers maximize their R.O.I.
I would like to expose producers in the Northeast to these programs and true dollar value of developing a partnership with Accelerated Genetics.
Why did you choose this company?
I was very impressed with the culture of the company, as well as their history in the A.I. industry. I also saw an opportunity to bring a product that was very well known and respected in the mid-west to producers in the Northeast that may be less familiar with it. I’m very excited to be part of such a great team with tremendous growth potential.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself leading and expanding our product and customer base in the Northeast through increased exposure in all that we have to offer. PD
