One of the New Product winners from the upcoming World Ag Expo in Tulare, California, was Hammer Works Manufacturing of Visalia, California. They’ve developed the Quick Release Battery Connector. According to the company’s website, the snap-on battery connectors are heavy-duty products equivalent to those designed for permanent connection.
The battery can be quickly disconnected by simply lifting the snap lid and can be moved between vehicles or taken indoors in cold weather. Tools are not required to connect or reconnect the battery as when dealing with traditional terminals. Megan Murphy, president, and Mike Murphy discussed this award-winning product.
What’s the history behind Hammer Works?
Megan: We’ve been in business for about two years now. We’re based in the San Joaquin Valley. We are used to being in the agricultural field and dealing with heavy-duty machinery. We’re a family company and have seven employees.
Mike: I’ve been in the automotive fabrication industry for over 37 years. I handle research, development and manufacturing.
What brought about the Quick Release Battery Connector’s creation?
Mike: We’ve seen the need time after time to be able to disconnect a battery to stop damage or to actually be able to move a battery from one piece of equipment to another quickly.
Do you see a specific need for this in the dairy industry?
Megan: The product really is for anything that uses a battery and there are many products in the agricultural field that use batteries. They use them for their equipment, generators and solar cells.
Is there a particular industry you see using this product the most?
Megan: We see a lot of people in agriculture using this product because they have to move their batteries back and forth quite a lot. We also see a lot of use from people who build and work on automobiles. There are a lot of people in recreational vehicles and marine vehicles who like the product because it can be used on boats as well.
When was this product introduced?
Mike: It was introduced right after the last World Ag Expo.
How is the product distributed?
Megan: We sell it through the website, by phone – or you’re welcome to stop by our building if you live locally. People can also order it through Carquest .
