The annual event addressed the important and complex issues surrounding the existing relationship among food production, nutrition and sustainability through an in-depth exploration of the sustainable diets’ notion: “Those diets with low environmental impacts which contribute to food and nutrition security and to healthy life for present and future generations. They are protective and respectful of biodiversity and ecosystems, culturally acceptable, accessible, economically fair and affordable; nutritionally adequate, safe and healthy; while optimizing natural and human resources.”

Adopting sustainable agricultural practices is key to securing the future of the next generation of farmers and addressing the concerns of Canadians.

According to a recent nationwide poll conducted on behalf of DFC, most Canadians want their milk to be produced in this country, as they trust their dairy industry’s high safety and quality standards are rigorously implemented.

International and Canadian speakers discussed topics ranging from global food supply to contribution of milk production on the environment. Local dairy farmers and past recipients or finalists of the Dairy Farm Sustainability Award were also asked to share their unique perspective on each one of these occasions.

Webcasts in both English and French are available on the Dairy Farmers of Canada website. For any other information about the symposium, visit the website.  PD
