When asked if they’ll be weaning early, 65 percent of those responding say they would not, while 35 percent say they will.
Early weaning has been a growing trend, especially against the ongoing drought in recent years through the Southwest and Midwest. But this year’s precipitation has been more generous than season’s past, with feed prices still keeping below record prices from previous years.
One region not seeing much recovery is the state of California, still gripped by one of its worst drought periods in decades. But among those votes coming in from the Golden State, the breakdown was still 71 percent saying they would not wean early, and 28 percent saying they would.
