Canadian breed associations recently recognized some of Canada’s top herds with the prestigious Master Breeder award. Presented by Holstein Canada, Jersey Canada, Ayrshire Canada, Canadian Milking Shorthorn Society and Canadian Guernsey Association, the 2021 recipients are featured below.
Jersey Canada awarded one Master Breeder shield to a deserving herd. This elite award is based on long-term excellence in the breed, and it is calculated using both production and classification data.
Holstein Canada recognized 19 Master Breeders earlier this year. Over 1,000 Master Breeder shields have been bestowed upon the country’s most elite Holstein herds since the program’s inception 92 years ago. Selected herds are those with the best ratio of cows displaying high production, outstanding type and strong abilities in reproduction, health and longevity.
