On July 1, 2024, the parent company of Amelicor, DHI Computing Service, Inc., celebrated its 70th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, DHI held an event for its employees that afternoon. Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi and US Representative John Curtis, notable local dignitaries, participated in the celebration.
Seventy years is a long time and quite an accomplishment. Few companies survive past five years, let alone thrive for 70. At Amelicor, we are proud to be part of such a successful tradition. We enjoyed celebrating with B. Lynn Crandall, DHI’s CEO, and commemorating the history that has shaped DHI and Amelicor. We look forward to a very bright future.
A History of DHI Computing Service, Inc.
DHI was founded in 1954 by Bliss H. Crandall as the first data processor between Chicago and San Francisco. Starting as a family business in the basement of the Crandall home in Logan, Utah, Bliss Crandall, then Assistant Director of the Statistical Laboratory at Utah State University, worked with Lyman Rich to develop the first system for automating dairy management records using IBM punch card equipment and tabulators. News of this innovative system spread throughout the dairy industry, making DHI the premier choice for dairy record processing in the United States.
In 1955, DHI moved to Provo, Utah, continuing to excel in data processing and becoming known as "Utah Valley’s Original High-tech Company." In 1964, DHI’s reputation caught the attention of the banking industry, leading to the creation of its second division, a financial processing company named FPS GOLD. Soon after, a Salt Lake City medical clinic sought DHI’s services, resulting in the creation of their medical division, eventually known as PCIS GOLD. In September 2005, DHI officially added GOLDPoint Systems as its fourth division to support its growing consumer finance clientele.
Today, DHI remains privately owned and family-oriented, driven to improve for its customers and employees rather than responding to the whims of bankers and shareholders. The diversification of our business brings variety, opportunity, and stability to each division. This is crucial because innovations in one division often inspire advancements in another. The stability from diversification ensures financial resilience, allowing DHI to consistently serve its customers.
A History of Amelicor
Amelicor began from humble beginnings with a task that needed to be done. While working at Utah State University, Bliss Crandall was asked by the county extension agent if he could automate the processing of dairy records to enable better, more accurate decisions.
This task led to the formation of the first division of DHI, known as the dairy division, which operated as DHI-Provo for many years. During that period, the services and products offered by the dairy division expanded significantly. To better reflect its expanded line of services and products, the dairy division announced on October 26, 2017, at our Annual Herd and Feed Management Conference, that it would begin transitioning to operate under a new name: Amelicor.
The name Amelicor derives from two words: "ameliorate" and "core." "Ameliorate" means to improve or make better, and "core" refers to the central and most important parts. Thus, Amelicor signifies "helping improve the core of your business."
In addition to the core services of processing DHIA records and providing the DHI-Lab and DHI-Plus herd management software, the dairy division expanded its product line by adding the EZfeed and EZweights systems.EZfeed is the industry-leading feed management system. EZweights is a platform scale system used to record deliveries of commodities to dairies, interfacing seamlessly with the EZfeed system.
Our growing line of expanded products and services enables us to stay current with the evolving needs of our customers. Our company philosophy keeps us agile in responding to those needs. Through a balanced approach, we offer a complete solution that can be used in its entirety or in parts.
