New antimicrobial provides dairy calves with rapid response treatment and control of BRD
Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is the single-largest cause of death in weaned heifers and the second
most common cause in pre-weaned calves, which makes it a significant health threat, as well as a financial threat, to the dairy industry.
Zactran (gamithromycin), a new antimicrobial from Merial , provides dairy producers with a rapid-response weapon in the battle against BRD. This product can be used for control of BRD in high-risk cattle or as a treatment for sick cattle.
This product is a prescription, ready-to-use solution for the treatment of BRD associated with Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida and Histophilus somni in beef and non-lactating dairy cattle, as well as the control of respiratory disease in beef and non-lactating dairy cattle at high risk of developing BRD associated with M. haemolytica and P. multocida .

New milk transporter provides greater ease of use
Urban recently launched the MilkShuttle – an electrically powered milk transporter that allows you to easily transport milk without effort, making even
long distances to calf pens a snap.
The new product is equipped with a better drive. Operation is infinitely variable, more powerful and adjusts to your walking speed. The safety of the operator is ensured by the newly installed stop contact.
Also new is a larger, illuminated display. The device issues a warning if the milk cools down too much. The heat management program monitors the fill level to prevent heating until dry.
The motor of the drive is now positioned on the rear axle. The extra-large tires are an additional help in rough terrain and provide high ground clearance.

DeLaval introduces reduced temperature detergent
With a long tradition in developing innovative cleaning solutions, DeLaval has introduced a new chlorinated alkaline detergent featuring superior hygienic results achieved at much lower temperatures.
The reduced temperature detergent (RTD) helps customers combat water temperature issues while reducing their energy use. Its unique dispersion technology gives the same CIP (clean in place) results at 45ºC (113ºF) as it would if the water temperature was 75°C (167ºF). With less energy needed to heat the water for cleaning milking systems and bulk tanks, some customers may see their power consumption reduced by as much as 50 percent.
The smart technology used in the new detergent not only helps reduce a dairy farm’s environmental impact but also safeguards its milk quality, which allows the producer to qualify for milk premiums. Furthermore, using lower water temperatures to sanitize milking system components ensures the optimal performance of, for instance, rubber parts, and may extend their lifetime. PD
