The University of Illinois is offering two online dairy classes in the 2015 spring semester.

“ANSC 499: Dairy Preventive Health Management” is a new one-credit class led by Dick Wallace starting on Feb. 2. The topics will include biosecurity, immunology, vaccinology and protocol development, lameness and hoof care, protocol development, records analysis, beef quality assurance and proper drug use and residue avoidance.

“ANSC 423: Advanced Dairy Nutrition” will be starting on Jan. 26 and will run for 11 weeks. The dairy feeding class includes nutrients, phase feeding, dry cow feeding and health, forages, feeding systems and ration software applications. The course will be led by Mike Hutjens.

Lectures are available on the website; class sessions are on-demand. A one-hour, live Internet class is held on Monday nights from 5 to 6 p.m. CST (nutrition course) and 7 to 8 p.m. CST (health course). Enrollees can participate for credit (at University of Illinois tuition rate), continuing education credit rate, or non-credit rate with reduced tuition.
