Byrne Dairy is now producing Greek yogurt in Cortland, New York, for retail sale. The products are available in Byrne's retail stores in central New York and in area groceries, according to the (Syracuse) Post-Standard.

The new line of Byrne Hollow Farm Greek Yoghurt comes in six flavors – black cherry, blueberry, peach, pineapple, raspberry and strawberry – and is produced in Byrne's Cortland plant, which opened this June for private-label yogurt customers.

The 75,000-square-foot Cortland plant employs 40 people, but Byrne says that number will grow to more than 100 employees as the plant scales up production. It currently produces 200,000 pounds of yogurt per week, but has the capacity to make 520,000 pounds per day.

The plant construction cost $30 million, at a 132-acre industrial park site developed by the Cortland County Industrial Development Agency. Syracuse, New York-based Byrne Dairy bought the entire site for $1.15 million, according to a Dec. 1, 2013, article in the Post-Standard.

Norwich, New York-based Chobani is the leading manufacturer of Greek yogurts.PD
