Eighty-six employees at the Dairy Farmers of America plant in Monett, Missouri, were notified by letter on March 6 that the DFA plant will be shutting down in the second half of 2013.
According to KY3 television, DFA is ceasing production of cheese curd and liquid whey for financial reasons. The company says it goes back to a deficit of milk in the area; they've been bringing it from other areas for years.DFA says some employees may be able to take jobs at Schreiber Foods, which makes cheese in the same building. The organization has also said it will work with other companies in the area to help find jobs for its skilled workers. PD
