3M Food Safety launches 48-hour yeast and mold indicator test 3M Food Safety’s new Petrifilm Rapid Yeast and Mold Count Plate is an indicator test that enables the detection of yeasts and molds in as little as 48 hours – faster, the company says, than conventional agar methods.
Conventional agar testing methods for yeast and molds require a five-day to seven-day incubation period, the longest waiting time of all microbial quality indicators.
By incorporating a new innovative technology, this new product greatly reduces this delay, improving time-to-result productivity gains, finished goods inventory and product shelf life.
The sample-ready system uses an easy three-step process: Inoculation, incubation and enumeration.
It results in blue-colored yeast and mold colonies and contains technological enhancements that prevent colonies from spreading or overlapping.

Purina’s new heifer feeds
Purina Animal Nutrition has created the Heifersmart Complete Feed (CF) and Heifersmart Base Mix (BM) feeds to address the nutritional needs of developing dairy heifers when they are transitioned to forage-based and pasture-based diets.
Available pelleted or texturized in 18 or 22 percent protein levels, CF is formulated to be used with high-quality forage as a single-feed formula.
BM feeds are available in 38 or 45 percent protein levels and are designed to be added to mixed feed, either forage and on-farm grains or commodities.
Both new products provide essential protein, energy, key vitamins and readily available minerals needed for optimal heifer growth and development.
