Melissa VanderSandenProgram AssistantWorld Dairy ExpoMadison, Wisconsin

Agricultural background
I grew up in Oregon, Wisconsin, surrounded by dairy farms. I showed Brown Swiss dairy cattle and beef cattle through my 11 years in 4-H.

Education
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in December 2014, where I majored in dairy science.

What are your new responsibilities?
My duties include coordinating the school tours that take place during World Dairy Expo. I also provide support to all staff members to assist with program needs.

Who has made the biggest impact on your career?
My parents and older brother have had the biggest impact on my career. I can say with 100 percent certainty that if my mother had not signed me up for 4-H, I would not have fallen in love with the agricultural industry, and I would not have the career that I have today.

Why did you choose this company?
I love everything World Dairy Expo stands for. While at UW – Madison, I had the opportunity to volunteer my time at the expo, and I loved seeing how it brings producers and consumers together. Being able to see the high caliber of dairy cattle is just icing on the cake. There is nowhere else I would rather be working.

What goals would you like to achieve in the new position?
I want to continue to see the entire show continue to grow, with new commercial exhibits as well as the best cattle in the world. However I can help, I will.

What previous positions have you held?
Prior to this position, I was a student at UW – Madison.  PD
