Please describe your agricultural background.
Before joining Michael Torrey Associates in August 2013, I worked as a senior professional staff member for the Senate Agriculture Committee under Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS). I covered commodity programs, crop insurance and disaster assistance.

After my time with the Committee, I provided strategic policy advice in the agriculture and food sector, including assistance with legislative drafting, navigating the political process, educating government officials and fundraising as the CEO of Smith Strategies.

Previously, I was director of government affairs for the American Farm Bureau, handling the farm bill and commodity issues. I've also worked for Monsanto Company and Promar International, an agribusiness consulting firm.

I grew up on a corn and soybean farm in central Illinois.

What are your new responsibilities?
Michael Torrey Associates serves companies and organizations who want their voices heard in Washington, D.C., on a wide range of issues in agriculture, food and financial services. As the vice president of federal affairs, I focus on developing and implementing legislative and regulatory strategies, building coalitions and informing policymakers on client priorities.

Who has made the biggest impact on your career?
My parents, who instilled in me a passion for agriculture and a strong work ethic.
