• Newly appointed to the board of directors of Select Sires Inc. are Board Chairman Myron Czech of Little Falls, Minnesota; First Vice Chairman Dan Andreas of Sugarcreek, Ohio; and Second Vice Chairwoman Dorothy Harms of Reedsburg, Wisconsin.
• Pete Kappelman of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, joined Holstein Foundation board of trustees, which oversees the direction of the Holstein Foundation’s youth and young adult educational and leadership development programs.
• Dr. Kevin Herrick, Kemin dairy technical services manager, received a Midwest American Dairy Science Association Young Scholar award at the association’s Midwest annual meeting for his presentation, “Butyrate supplementation effects on metabolism and production in lactating dairy cows.”
• The late Gary Kuhlmann of Carlinville, Illinois, long-time supervisor of Field Services for Prairie Farms Dairy Inc., was named 2013 recipient of the Steve Atkisson Indiana Dairy Service award sponsored by Indiana Milk Quality Professionals. It was presented to Kuhlmann’s son, Shawn, for “outstanding contributions to the dairy industry of Indiana.”
• Vernon Horst of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, was re-elected chairman of the Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association. Harold Shaulis of Somerset was re-elected chairman of Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program. Other members also have been re-elected.
