Greg Jones NutriDense Silage Product Manager at BASF Plant Science in Durham, North Carolina
Territory: United States and Argentina
Education: I have an associate’s degree in animal science and agribusiness from Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho; a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah; and an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix in Meridian, Idaho. Additionally, I have 13 years of experience in various positions throughout the dairy industry, providing me with a solid understanding of the dairy value chain and dairy operations.
Background/Experience: I have been a part of the dairy and feed industry my entire life. I grew up on a small farm in eastern Idaho, began milking cows by hand at the age of seven, and learned how to breed, milk, feed and address health needs on a 300-cow dairy operation at 15. I went on to earn the FFA Idaho State Farmer Degree. I enjoy working with cows and dairy producers and have devoted my professional career to bringing solutions to the dairy operation.
How will you be of most help to producers in your area of expertise?
Working on and with dairy operations has provided me with a strong foundation for understanding the needs of today’s dairy business. Learning from nutritionists, veterinarians and industry consultants, I have gained an application for science-based technologies and critical thinking skills. I look forward to applying these skills in my capacity as NutriDense Silage Product Manager.
What’s your best story from the first day on the job?
One of the highlights from the first week on the job was spending time with my new colleagues and meeting customers at the 2009 World Dairy Expo. I had the opportunity to meet one of our dairy producer customers from Argentina. Learning about the dairy industry in Argentina was a real treat.
What previous positions have you held?
I was a regional sales manager with Diamond V Technologies, a manufacturer of yeast culture metabolites. In this capacity, I was responsible for marketing, business planning and sales for a number of products with a focus on large dairy operations. Previously, I was an area marketing manager for Monsanto Dairy Business, a dairy specialist for Purina Mills Inc. and a feed products marketing manager for Koch Feed Products Company. PD
