Rachel Kaehler Dairy Cattle Show Coordinator at World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin
Territory: U.S. and Canada
Education
I am pleased to put my years of experience growing up on a farm and showing cattle to use. I will also use the education I received at NDSU from Professors Russ Danielson, Burt Moore and Paul Berg. Their practical knowledge and guidance have served me well. My years of traveling the Midwest and working with feedlot managers in South Dakota, cow/calf ranchers in Montana and large-herd dairy producers in New Mexico and the Texas panhandle have helped give me a great overview of the ag industry.
Background/Experience
I grew up on a beef farm in St. Charles, Minnesota. At Homedale Cattle Company, I exhibited purebred Shorthorn, Angus and Simmental cattle locally, nationally and internationally. I graduated from North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. After college, I worked for Land O’Lakes and Cargill Animal Nutrition as a feed sales representative. I was working in New Mexico selling calf grain to large-herd dairy producers prior to accepting this position.
After many years of being on the road as a salesperson for the feed industry, I am pleased to say that my office is in Madison, Wisconsin, and no longer behind a windshield.
How will you be of most help to producers in your area of expertise?
My job is to make sure that everyone that comes to the show has a great experience.
World Dairy Expo offers everything you need to be profitable in the dairy business. You’ll find the most modern dairy equipment and the newest dairy technology and innovations, including animal health supplies, milking systems, feeding products, forage-handling and manure-handling equipment plus embryos, semen and genetic research.
What excites you most about working in your new role?
I am excited to tackle the challenge of hosting a show that attracts dairymen from 90 different countries around the globe. It’s a great opportunity to work with breeders from all over the U.S. and Canada. With over 68,000 dairy enthusiasts and 2,700 cattle on grounds, it’s bound to be a great experience.
What are your new responsibilities?
As dairy cattle show coordinator, I assist with all aspects of hosting the world’s premier dairy cattle show, processing entries and organizing eight national and international breed shows. I work closely with Laura Herschleb, the dairy cattle show manager, to enter cattle information, work with breed superintendents on stalling cattle and making sure the show runs smoothly. As a member of the WDE Management Inc. team, I also process youth entries for the Dane County Fair and provide accounting assistance for the Wisconsin Rural Opportunities Fund Inc. PD
