The Modesto Bee ran an article titled “Dairy industry rebounds at last in Northern San Joaquin Valley.” Ray Souza, a Turlock-area dairy farmer, told the paper the region’s industry is doing better despite the challenges with drought and debt. “I don’t see the for-sale signs,” he said. “I don’t see the foreclosures. I don’t see the equipment being loaded onto trucks.”

Matt Hoff, a New Windsor dairy farmer, was interviewed for a Carroll County Times article about two bills passed by the Maryland General Assembly. The bills would expand how far farmers can travel between farm operations with vehicles with Class K registration (a “K-tag”) and give milk haulers time to upgrade their trucks in order to carry more weight on state roads.

Hoff said he was glad to see that the K-tag radius could be increased; he said it’s difficult for operators with large farms to stay within the current 10-mile limit.  PD
