Stationed in the center of theCollege of Agricultural and LifeSciences on the University of Wisconsin– Madison campus, the Babcock HallDairy Plant not only provides dairyproducts to the surrounding universitybut is also the site of cutting-edgeresearch.
This is only fitting, as it isnamed in honor of Stephen M. Babcock,the agricultural chemist who, on thesame campus, developed the Babcocktest for determining the butterfatcontent of milk.
The dairy plant is home to theWisconsin Center for Dairy Research,one of six checkoff-funded centersin the country. It is a multiproductresearch and teaching facility. At leastthree food science degree courses andten short courses utilize the plant fordemonstrations and manufacturingactivities.
