The simplified design of this implement sets it apart from the competition, says manufacturer Mills Manufacturing. While other spreaders on the market rely on apron chains and gearboxes, the Mills spreader uses a two-stage, hydraulic push ram. This allows for smooth, controlled movement of the materials in the spreader.

The spreader also features beaters that easily lift to stockpile or discharge material that may have became lodged in the beaters.

The chisel teeth on the beaters rotate at 450 RPM to leave behind an even spread pattern on any material being spread, from bedding packs to ag lime or lime sludge. The beaters operate on independent motors to prevent broken teeth – if a rock or other foreign material stops them from rotating, just raise the end gate, drop the obstruction and continue spreading.

The spreader is constructed from heavy duty steel frame and a poly constructed box to eliminate corrosion, distortion and to ensure a precise gate fit. This allows for complete clean out of the box with each load that is spread or dumped.

The operator is able to control both the hydraulics, which run the push arm and the RPMs on the tractor, independently of one another. This allows the operator to control the amount of material being spread without varying the speed of the tractor.

The manufacturer cites on-farm results that have shown this spreader to be 47 percent faster than the competition at spreading lime sludge, three times faster at stockpiling, and 2.5 times faster at spreading manure. PD
