The byproduct of industry: In the state of Colorado, skiing is king! A day on the slopes includes fresh powder, picturesque scenery and a cup of hot chocolate to warm you up. But, ski resorts have come up with lots of unique ways to provide entertainment for any level of snow enthusiast. For the younger or less experienced ski bum, there are inflatable tubes with a plastic disc attached to the bottom, which allows people to slide down a gentle slope.

Over time, these inflatable tubes and discs begin to wear down just enough to be decommissioned by the ski resort.

The discs are 41 inches in diameter, nine inches tall and made of a flexible HDPE plastic that does not crack easily. But just because the discs are no longer good for the ski resorts, there is still plenty of life left in them for a different purpose.

The repurpose:
These snow discs are the right size and durability for many other purposes. A snow disc can hold water, making it a great puppy pool or birdbath.

Additionally, it can hold a large quantity of food for livestock or other large animals. It doesn’t matter if they get kicked around or bitten, they are super tough.

For the kids, fill up the discs with sand and you have a manageable sandbox. Or keep the purpose close to its original intent and use the disc as a sled for the neighborhood park.

Keep liquids or other contents that leak under drums and barrels from puddling on the ground by simply placing a disc underneath. It could be used as an oil pan or other catch-all.

These discs are easy to clean, but hard to crack.

The snow discs could make a small pond liner or a shallow planter. And if these ideas don’t float your boat, how about a giant Frisbee!
