Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Tarleton State University hosted the 2012 Southwest Dairy Day on Oct. 18 for dairy producers and the general public. The event was held at Tarleton's Southwest Regional Dairy Center in Stephenville, Texas, and included booth vendors, equipment dealers and educational activities, and tours of the fully operational dairy center.
During the tours, visitors viewed the state of-the-art facility with its automatic sorting gates, 24-cow carousel milking parlor with radio frequency identification capabilities, classrooms and research laboratories, free-stall barn and other production facilities.
“This year’s Dairy Day attracted over 500 visitors, 60 booth vendors and equipment dealers,” said Todd Bilby, dairy specialist with Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Service.
The keynote speakers were state Rep. Sid Miller, state Sen. Craig Estes and Tarleton State University President Dominic Dottavio. Several educational speakers presented various topics affecting the Southwest dairy industry.
“The Southwest Dairy Day continues to be a popular event with dairy producers and the general public who are interested in learning more about the dairy industry,” said Bilby. PD
