Wells’ Dairy has legally changed its corporate name to Wells Enterprises Inc. The move is intended to better reflect its current product mix of Blue Bunny ice cream and frozen novelties, company spokesman Dave Smetter said in a statement. The Le Mars, Iowa-based company sold its milk and yogurt holdings three years ago.

“The new name continues to reflect the family ownership of the company, but eliminates the element of “dairy,” which we recognized added confusion due to its connotation of fluid milk processing or even a dairy cattle operation,” Wells said in a statement.

While the company’s legal name is now Wells Enterprises, it’s appropriate to refer to the company in media coverage as simply “Wells,” Smetter said.

Brothers Harry C. and Fred H. Wells founded the company in 1913 when they purchased a horse, wagon and milk route from a local farmer. PD
