Have you always wanted to see what happens at World Dairy Expo? Or are you a regular attendee that just can’t make the trip this year? Thanks to today’s technology, you don’t have to miss out. For the third year in a row, the sights and sounds of this annual dairy exposition will be streamed live via the Internet. A production crew of 14 to 16 people from Token Creek Mobile Television spend 12 hours a day filming, editing and broadcasting the show.
The video, live from the colored shavings, is aired for trade show attendees in the Exhibition Hall, for cattle exhibitors and fitting crews in the cattle barns, and as mentioned, over the Internet for the entire world to see.
Token Creek specializes in live broadcasts of professional sporting events. Filming the cattle show at World Dairy Expo in 2008 was a first for the company.
To better serve their dairy audience, they enlisted the help of Diane Nichols, a former Expo dairy cattle show manager, who directs the broadcast from a truck parked on-site. The event’s producer also interviews the show’s judges to learn what they will be looking for in the ring.
This information helps determine camera angles to portray how the judge is viewing the cows. Four cameras cover the ring – one high above, two at the first row of seating and one that strolls the floor for close-up shots.
Because Expo is more than a premier dairy cattle show, the film crew covers the entire grounds, capturing the essence of Expo from the exhibitors and trade show to the youth and the school visits. These pre-recorded clips are aired in between cattle classes and during additional downtime in the ring.
New this year, Token Creek will be recording the virtual farm tours and educational seminars that take place at Expo. These will not be broadcast live, but will be posted to the Expo website in the weeks following the event.
