In a recent online poll, Progressive Forage asked, “What alfalfa research do you hope the new Alfalfa Checkoff Program will focus on first?”
Sixteen percent of readers said they want to see root rot or stem nematode research. Twelve percent of readers would rather see “other” research. Meanwhile, only 11 percent of readers voted for salinity resistance research.
Winter hardiness and pest resistance were neck-and-neck for the majority vote. Ultimately, 31 percent of readers said pest resistance research should be top priority, while winter hardiness came in a close second with 30 percent of the vote.
