Speakers from the University's Extension system along with guests from throughout the western United States provided a day of information and current field research.
Dairymen and forage producers from southern Idaho received information on forage harvest management, NIR versus wet chemistry testing, silage sampling and silage particle size in relation to ruminant digestion. (See below for slideshow.)
Mycogen Seed representatives offered continuing information on a three year study involving silage production under differing drought conditions.
These experiments, in partnership with the University of Idaho and other testing sites throughout the United States, are intended to offer updated growing strategies for silage corn under less-than-ideal water conditions.
Information will continue to be collected and released to all interested growers at the end of the study through the extension services and Mycogen representatives.
Other field research studies included hands-on information involving alternative forages to extend grazing seasons, weed control in corn and the latest variety trials for alfalfa and other forage crops.
