Sponsored by the University of Idaho Extension and Dow AgroSciences/Mycogen Seeds, participants heard from Extension specialists involved with forage, weeds, irrigation and soils.
Keith Bolsen, Professor Emeritus at Kansas State University, also addressed the group and discussed silage “opportunities” or things to consider to reduce shrink and improve amounts and quality of silage available to feed.
Tours around the farm demonstrated some of the current research trials, including those examining seed coatings, interseeding legumes in pastures, alternative forages for biofuels, impacts of water stress on silage corn growth across the season and herbicide effectiveness.
After a dutch oven lunch, local equipment companies participated in a silage chopping demonstration.
