CWT export assistance efforts focus on dairy products that positively impact producers’ milk checks: American-type cheeses, anhydrous milkfat, butter containing 82% butterfat, cream cheese and whole milk powder. All these products are moving the components of U.S. dairy farmer milk overseas.
CWT member cooperatives submitted 301 requests for export assistance during the first three months of 2021. CWT provided assistance on 218 of these requests, resulting in contracts to sell 11.9 million pounds of Cheddar, Gouda and Monterey Jack cheese, 8.8 million pounds of butter, 3.6 million pounds of anhydrous milkfat, 4.4 million pounds of cream cheese, and 13.5 million pounds of whole milk powder. All these products are contracted to be delivered in 2021 and are the equivalent of 540 million pounds of milk on a milkfat basis.
