This daughter of Semex sire Clarefield Mocha is the result of an embryo imported from the U.S. out of former all-American cow and bull mother Rovin Derek Ali Accent-P.
Apple also was named Best Udder of the Show and received the CanWest DHI Production Award for the highest producer in the championship class.
John Buckley of Salem Holsteins, Lindsay, Ontario, served as judge. In naming Apple his champion, Buckley acknowledged her dairy quality and balance throughout, along with strong udder attachments. Apple (scored VG-88) is currently projected for a second lactation of 3x proj. 16,634 kgs M 669F 4.0 percent 483P 2.9 percent BCA: 616-614-549.
For Reserve Grand Champion, Buckley chose Lynmark Out Fleece, the 2012 National Show Grand Champion and 2013 Canadian Cow of the Year. Fleece is scored EX-94 in fifth lactation and is owned by Lynmark Farms of Norwood, Ontario. She is sired by Mericrest Outlaw and has a top lactation of 9298 kgs M 479F 5.2 percent 308P 3.3 percent BCA: 307-396-311 in 305 days.
Honourable mention went to 2-year-old Cedar Creek Sam Dee Dahlia 6, owned by Adrian and Linda Franken of Teeswater, Ontario.
Junior championship honours went to another animal that was the result of a purchased embryo – Prinsville Adam Evening, owned by Rob Ashton of Port Perry, Ontario. Evening was bred by the Prinzen family of Prinsville Dairy Farms, Bloomfield, Ontario, and was the first-place senior yearling.
Reserve Junior Champion was Franlea Sam Bella (First Senior Calf), owned by Adrian and Linda Franken, while honourable mention went to Cedar Creek Premium Jeanette 17 (First Junior Calf), owned by Doug Wherry of Oshawa, Ontario.
Lynmark Farms of Norwood, Ontario, were named Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor of the show, with Prinsville as the runner-up for both awards. PD
