Established in 1982, this award honours the memory of Dr. J.L. Lush who dedicated his life to advancing the field of animal breeding. TheAmerican Dairy Science Association(ADA) gives the award yearly to recognize an individual’s outstanding research in animal breeding. The group presented Miglior with the award at its annual meeting in Indianapolis.

{socialbuttons}Miglior, who also is an adjunct professor at the University of Guelph and editor for Journal of Dairy Science, received his Ph.D. from the University of Guelph and in 1996 returned to his native Italy where his early career was marked by a period of strong service and research leadership. He was chief geneticist at the Italian Livestock Farmers Association in Rome, followed by his role as manager of Research & Development at the Italian Holstein Association, ANAFI.

In addition, he was adjunct professor at the universities of Milan and Piacenza. In 2000, he returned to Canada as part of the team at CDN leading research aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Canadian dairy genetics worldwide.

Since 2004, Miglior has managed eight research projects as principal investigator with total budgets exceeding $880,000 and as co‐applicant of eleven research projects with budgets in excess of $1.8 million. He actively supports decisions to advance dairy cattle genetics in Canada by setting industry-driven research priorities, developing new methodologies and tools for industry, and reviewing research proposals requesting industry funding.
