The poll asked, “Have you ever had to work with land or water restrictions for endangered species?”
While a majority of 35 percent said no, another 33 percent said yes and another 31 percent said, “Not yet, but it will happen.”
ESA listings, as determined by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, routinely are made to the national register. Species of birds, mammals, fish, insects and plant vegetation can be added to the list as either threatened or endangered, resulting in federal limits and controls on uses of public land – especially livestock ranching.
Recent additions to the list included the threatened label for the lesser prairie chicken in an area of the Southwest.
