“We’re helping farmers establish themselves so they can provide a consistent and reliable supply of locally grown foods to the community,” said Michael McFarland, DVM, Diplomate ABVP, and group director of Veterinary Medical Services & Corporate Citizenship for Pfizer Animal Health. “The donation will go towards programs designed to help communities thrive long term.”

One area of focus in Pfizer’s relationship with Heifer International is to help impoverished families and communities in the U.S. create sustainable food sources, through unique programs like Heifer’s Seeds of Hope. A portion of the donation was given to Seeds of Hope to help families in an impoverished area of southeastern Arkansas produce food and income by creating two learning centers for livestock and horticultural education, along with three farmers markets and a community kitchen.

Support for Heifer International is a component of Pfizer Animal Health’sCommitment to Veterinariansplatform, which offers support through training and education, research and development, investing in the future of the veterinary profession, and philanthropy.
