Attendees at this year’s National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) convention and trade show in Houston, Texas, can expect plenty of educational opportunities if they attend the 29th annual Cattlemen’s College sessions.
This year, Cattlemen’s College will commence on Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. The first day’s sessions will include presentations on hot topics including global cattle industry trends and the latest information on greenhouse gas emissions research, risk management and the beef x dairy trend, and live cattle demonstrations.
Tuesday’s sessions kick off at 8 a.m. Producers will have the choice of four presentations to attend in three hour-long sessions. Each presentation falls under one of five focus topics: protecting your bottom line, improving efficiency and herd health, practical nutrition management, trending now and sustainability applied. The promising lineup of presenters includes folks from industry groups and companies, including Purina Animal Nutrition, Rabo AgriFinance, Cargill Animal Nutrition, Noble Research Institute and more, as well as extension specialists from Colorado, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Texas, along with producers from New York, Hawaii, Idaho, Oregon, Colorado and more.
This year’s opening general session features former Olympic and professional boxer George Foreman. Following his remarks, the NCBA Trade Show will open. The trade show includes more than 350 exhibitors, featuring the latest in equipment, trucks, fencing supplies, technology, pharmaceuticals, eartags, feed supplements and more, as well as the classics we know and love.
The Learning Lounge, Chutes and Scales demonstrations and live cattle-handling demonstrations all provide more opportunities for trade show attendees to learn more about cattle care and handling techniques.
On Wednesday morning, CattleFax will once again conduct their Outlook Session, highlighting demand and supplies for beef, cattle and competing proteins. They will also present a price and profitability outlook for 2022 and beyond for all classes of cattle as well as beef. They will also explore export and import markets as well as a grain outlook. Meteorologist Matt Makens, replacing recently retired veteran weather guy Art Douglas, will give a weather forecast highlighting any changes occurring in weather patterns for the U.S. as well as the rest of the world in 2022.
Thursday morning’s general session focuses on beef markets and demand, both in the U.S. and across the globe. In this session, hosted by NCBA’s vice president, Ethan Lane, attendees will hear from British Ambassador Dame Karen Pierce as well as other invited guests, and get an update on the beef business climate at home and abroad.
