U.S. total farm tractor sales grew 9.2% for the month of February compared to 2021, while U.S. self-propelled combine sales for the month inched up 3.1% to 200 units sold. The 100-plus-horsepower, two-wheel-drive segment once again led all segments with a 27.9% jump, followed by the sub-40-horsepower, two-wheel-drive segment, up 8.1%. Midrange tractors between 40 and 100 horsepower climbed 7.1%, reversing last month’s decline, while four-wheel-drive tractors were nearly flat, climbing only 0.6% or one additional unit sold for the month.

In Canada, sales of tractors for the month of February were up 1% overall, led by 100-plus-horsepower units up 11.3% and midrange 40- to 100-horsepower units up 2.4%. Combine harvesters sales fell in Canada, down 42.4% to 30 units sold, eight more units than four-wheel-drive units, which were down 57.7% for the month. 

“This is another positive month for ag tractor and combine sales, up overall in both North American markets,” said Curt Blades, senior vice president, industry sectors and product leadership at the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. “Strength in the commodities markets is continuing to drive a lot of the sales growth, which we see in that continued growth in bigger row crop units. And with fuel prices seeming to be on their way up for the foreseeable future, it’s possible even more farmers will want to get in on the efficiencies that new equipment has to offer.”
