Progressive Publishing hired Allyson Dalton (formerly King) as a summer editorial intern for Progressive Cattle. In this position, she will be writing news articles and feature stories, assisting with social media and receiving a first-hand look at the Progressive Cattle Podcast

Dalton graduated from Utah State University (USU) in May with a dual bachelor’s degree in agricultural communication and journalism with an emphasis in print and a minor in animal and dairy science.

A native to southern Idaho, Dalton grew up involved at her grandparents' dairy and participated in 4-H and FFA. Her family always had an assortment of animals around their barnyard, including Angus cows, horses, chickens and the occasional goat. During her time in FFA, Dalton participated in livestock and dairy judging and attended many judging camps and competitions. Through these experiences, she was able to gain a better understanding of not only the dairy industry but the beef industry as well.

“Although I didn’t grow up on a large dairy or beef operation, agriculture was always around me,” Dalton said. “My parents and grandparents did a great job instilling in me an appreciation for the ag industry and the importance of it.”

Prior to working for Progressive Publishing, Dalton interned for the Idaho Farm Bureau Federation as a communications intern and has managed social media accounts for local businesses and a legislative candidate. While at USU, Dalton worked for the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences (CAAS) as an office assistant and served as the CAAS council president, helping with retention and student events. She was also able to write articles published in Utah State Today and the online CAAS news website.

Dalton now lives in Richfield, Idaho, where she and her husband assist on the family Red Angus cow-calf operation. They have a registered and commercial herd and for the past few years have entered into the bull selling sector.

“I love every aspect,” she said. “There is never a dull moment, and taking part in the family business has only deepened my love of cattle and the agricultural way of life.”

Interning for Progressive Publishing has been a goal of Dalton’s since she began her secondary education. She is beyond excited to work with the Progressive Cattle editorial team and meet with producers and consumers.

“I am looking forward to sharpening my skills and contributing to the sharing and promoting of the cattle industry,“ Dalton said.
