From marketing and communications to software engineering, two new interns bring fresh ideas.
América Bernal and Tyler DeGroot have joined the Rock River Laboratory team as the software engineering intern and marketing and communications intern, respectively.
Bernal
In her new position, Bernal will be designing customized software and software applications for both client and company use, developing code, assisting with software testing and installation, and collaborating with other engineers and programmers to design systems that support the applications.
Currently pursuing two bachelor's degrees - in Computer Engineering and Computer Sciences - at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Bernal brings previous experience as a student technical support where she trouble-shot network complications and hardware malfunctions and helped students and employees enhance tech use. Some of her university projects include the implementation of a multi-phase computer architecture system as well as building a single-user database management system.
“America’s vast and strong skill set, combined with her experience in and out of the classroom is a great asset to Rock River Laboratory,” shares Oliver Sawyer, lead software engineer for Rock River Laboratory. “We are excited to have her on board and bringing new ideas to the table.”
DeGroot
As the marketing and communications intern, DeGroot will be taking on planning and execution of content across social, website, blog, text, and email marketing platforms. His role incorporates writing for media distribution, assisting in communications and public relations initiative development, and crafting sales support materials.
“Tyler’s work ethic and enthusiastic personality precedes him,” shares Buffy Uglow, Rock River Laboratory marketing and communications director. “His passion for marketing and desire to learn will be a fantastic way to continue improving our internal and external marketing and communications efforts this summer.”
DeGroot is currently attending Grand Canyon University, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the fields of marketing and advertising, with a minor in biblical studies. His vast experience includes work in produce quality control, yard maintenance, and as a Discover GCU host for graduating seniors to learn more about the university.
