Cattle ID preferences vary from producer to producer, but the ever-present question of “which one do you use?” is an evergreen conversation starter among the cattle crowd.

Progressive Cattle asked producers how they ID their cattle, with the option to select multiple options.

The most used method is, unsurprisingly, the conventional eartag, at just above 50%. The next runner up is hot iron or freeze branding at almost 18%.

E-ID tags and tattooing racked up 11.6% each, and metal USDA tags finished with 8.4%.
