On April 22, 2013, from noon to 1 p.m. CDT, Dr. Paul Fricke will present a webinar titled "New Tools for Dairy Reproduction Programs." Fricke is a professor at the University of Wisconsin – Madison Department of Dairy Science. He is also an extension specialist in dairy cattle reproduction for UW-Extension.

Fricke's research focuses on developing and improving methods for reproductive management of dairy cattle. Dr. Fricke’s extension program aims at improving reproductive efficiency of dairy cattle by applying knowledge gained through scientific research to develop practical management strategies and assess new reproductive technologies.

Progressive Dairyman asked Fricke for additional details about his presentation:

Q. Why is this topic important?
FRICKE: Dairy cattle reproduction is a key driver of milk production and profitability for dairy farms. Improving reproductive performance is an important goal of dairy management.

Q. What do you hope attendees will take away from your webinar presentation?

FRICKE: During the webinar, I will be discussing results from my research examining several new technologies to manage reproduction. Every new technology brings with it the potential to improve reproduction – but if used incorrectly can actually decrease reproduction. Technologies I will discuss include the following:

1. Accelerometer systems for detecting estrous activity
2. Nonpregnancy diagnosis with ultrasound and resynchronization strategies
3. Blood and milk pregnancy tests PD
