BOLTON sons lead the way in ABS new graduate lineup
The legacy of ABS BOLTON sons continues with the release of August 2012 USDA genetic evaluations. A total of 13 new graduates entered the active ABS lineup, including four sons of ABS millionaire sire 29HO11111 BOLTON and three Jersey sires.
BOLTON son 29HO14142 DORCY*BY leads the new graduate lineup and made his mark as the number three TPI sire on Holstein Association USA’s Top 100 TPISM list with +2266 GTPI. This BOLTON x Bret global sire of sons adds +3.13 UDC and +2.76 FLC, as well as +1347 Milk and +6.7 PL to bring functionality and profit to any dairy operation.
Graduate 29HO14080 GAVIN*BY is a full brother to April grad 29HO14062 GILLESPY*BY, and making his own mark on the ABS active lineup. Combining two ABS millionaire sires in his pedigree, this BOLTON x SHOTTLE son stands with +2104 GTPI and is tied as the number one bull at ABS for Fat (+77). He adds over +2.00 of PTA Type and Udder Composite and 8 percent Calving Ease to build cows that can succeed in any operation.
An exciting new high-type Holstein graduate from the ABS Primetime lineup and Judge’s Choice program, 94HO14105 AFTERSHOCK provides incredible type linears, with +3.32 PTAT, +2.70 UDC and +2.24 FLC.
29HO14109 BRENDAL is another result of a BOLTON x SHOTTLE millionaire mating from the Regancrest Barbie family. The No. 2 sire in the breed for udders at +3.87, this previous ABS Primetime sire returns to the lineup as a graduate with +3.04 PTAT and +1903 GTPI.
The final BOLTON son, 29HO14137 MICHELOB (BOLTON x Potter) will be offered as a sexed exclusive sire. MICHELOB provides excellent TPI at +2002 GTPI, and adds strong udder attachments and high production to daughters with balanced frames.
29JE3647 VIBRANT pilots the new Jersey graduates, with elite JPI (+216), Net Merit $ (+530) and production (+2027 M). He is a RESTORE x Paramount son and successful sire of sons. 29JE3642 GATSBY was also introduced this week, and this Impuls x Brazo son produces beautiful rear udders and adds milk volume while increasing percentages.
The last Jersey graduate is 29JE3630 MAGNIFICO, a LEXINGTON x Lemvig son producing long-lasting cows with strong udder attachments and component improvement.

Accelerated Genetics sees exciting results in latest sire summaries
Accelerated Genetics’ tried and true sires are once again confirming their quality. 014HO04929 MAN-O-MAN, now ranks second in the breed for TPI at +2314 – a small +14 points separates him from the top. The rest of his proof reads as follows: +714 NM$, +1541 PTAM, +2.00 PTAT, and 6 percent SCE.
The biggest thrill this time around has been with the new August 2012 releases. This group of elite recent PACE graduates is already prominent in our roster and stand tall in any line up. Their numbers are competitive against rankings across their respective breeds.

His predictions indicate a combination of type (+2.78 PTAT) and health with +6.5 PL, +1.4 DPR and 2.57 SCS.
014HO06033 MASSIVE(Baxter X Outside) is the new health trait specialist with 2.64 SCS and a +6.9 PL, which puts him seventh in the breed. At +645 NM$, he has solid numbers of +2085 TPI, +1302M, +58F, and functional type at +1.89 PTAT. 014HO05961 POWEL(Bolton X JC) is high for butterfat at 64 PTAF and +0.13 percent F. Daughters aremoderately statured with plenty of openness to their ribs.
014HO05994MATRIX (Bolton X O Man) will make exceptional udders with +2.03 UDC, +2.90 FUA, +2.64 RUH, +1.70 UC. 014HO05971KIRK (Bolton X Durham) transmits high type, strongly attached udders, and awesome mobility at +2.01 FLC.
014HO05980 MERLIN (Zenith X O Man) brings the solution for somatic cell count as a top five rankingsire at 2.46 SCS. With +519 NM$ and +5.6 PL, daughters will be excellent commercial cows with desirable moderate size and track straight on their rear legs. 014HO06009MAINSTAY (Ramos X Boss Iron) is in the top 20 for productive life (+6.0 PL). He has predictions of +1940 TPI, +500 NM$, +2.28 UDC, 2.60 SCS, 5 percent DCE.
014HO06014TOPPING (Encino X Stormatic) will be another pleasing sire for commercial dairies, making medium framed daughters with respectable production. He transmits functional type (+2.09 PTAT), well-attached udders (+1.95 UDC), and sound feet and legs (+1.86 FLC). 014HO06047FAVRE (Boliver X Durham) is out of the legendary “Raven” maternal line and his proofshows this excellent pedigree in his numbers of +2.91 PTAT and +2.53 UDC.
Jersey: Two new outstanding index Jersey sires, both in the top ten for JPI, are ones to notice! 014JE00533VITO (Restore X Paramount) enters the line up as the number one milk and protein yield sire in the breed! He is incredible at +2381M and +71P with +404 NM$ and +205 JPI. 014JE00537LOTTO (Jevon X Jace) makes a strong premier at fourth in the breed for +616 NM$. In addition to sound health traits (2.66 SCS, +5.3 PL), daughters will have awesome butterfat (+82F) and be high producing (+1266M).
Brown Swiss: The two new daughter proven bulls are sired by Scipio, the elite Italian Denmark son known for his influential udder traits on the breed.
014BS00341EMERGENCY, following the same udderimproving pattern as his sire, he is among the best in the breed with +1.82 UDC, +2.10 FUA, +1.40 RUA, +1.80 UD. Out of a EX-91 2E Brinks daughter, he is a solid +124 PPR and has predictions of +34F +.13 percent F, +.05 percent P. 014BS00340DON is consistent with his EX-91-2E Pronto dam for component yields with high fatnumbers of +43F and +.14 percent F.
Ayrshire: 014AY00027 DREW is a Modem son from a deep maternal line of four generations of VG or EX. His +529 PTI ranks third overall and second for 100 percent registry Ayrshires. At +383 NM$, +1.00 PTAT, +2.6 PL, his daughters will be profitable and long lasting with eye-appeal.
Milking Shorthorn: 014MS00113 SPURGEON is a Ted son from an EX-91 Blaser dam. With a 100 percent Milking Shorthorn pedigree, he has a +292 NM$ and excellent health traits at +2.1 PL. He will transmit high, wide rear udder attachments with a deep udder cleft and close teat placement at +0.40 RUH, +0.60 RUW, +0.50 UC, +0.50 TP.
Second crop sire accomplishments: 014HO04916 JAKE added over 1,300 daughters, increased his TPI over 50 points to +1893, and has proven our belief that he will continue to improve with age. 014HO05434 TRUMP is now one of the highest reliability Shottle sons, has a +2.23 PTAT at 95 percent Reliability, and held his milk prediction at a solid +1652M.
014HO05560 EMERALD is now second in the breed for fat and his own sons are returning high genomic numbers. 014HO05936 DOM, a top 20 TPI sire at +2136, stands out amongst Bolton sons with a lower SCE than most and strong production, butterfat, and type.

Alta releases six new bulls to proven lineup
As the leading genetic program among progressive dairy producers, the Alta Advantage program continues to command a presence around the globe. From Advantage come the myriad of highly accurate proofs, as well as extremely fertile, genetic-standout bulls.
This round, Alta released six new bulls to the proven lineup. Leading off the TPI list is 11HO10365 AltaGOALMAN (2145 TPI), a production and CFP specialist. He is Alta’s highest proven bull for CFP (160 pounds) and second highest proven bull for pounds of milk (2337 PTAM).
The FutureStar program continues to maintain an extraordinary graduation rate with three graduates this August: 11HO10469 AltaEXACTER, 11HO10360 AltaAVALON and 11HO10392 AltaRAZOR. AltaAVALON, a real global favorite during his G-Star and FutureStar careers, more than delivers on his genomic promises. He will be popular with even the most discriminating client for type (3.10 PTAT, 2.89 UDC).
All three of these former FutureStar bulls maintain a ConceptPlus designation, signifying superior fertility. Combined, they have over 20,000 fertility observations based on pregnancy check results in the competitive environments of our Advantage partner herds. For Alta, a fertile product is always of utmost importance. Indicative of this is the fact that this August, all but one of our new release sires are of ConceptPlus status.
Four bulls released in April with production information now receive official type information. In April, 11HO10334 AltaBUENO, 11HO10346 AltaJENKINS, 11HO10316 AltaTRINITY and 11HO10338 AltaQUASAR received the “Advantage Consultant seal of approval” in terms of their breeding patterns.
Both the G-Star and FutureStar programs add several new genetic powerhouses this proof round. 11HO11027 AltaKOOL now holds the top position in the FutureStar lineup with an impressive GTPI of 2358. Topping the G-Star list is newcomer 11HO11158 AltaSUPLEX, whose GTPI is the highest yet attained by a G-Star bull at 2427.

CRV bulls have the components to lead to profitability
The August 2012 sire evaluations for CRV presented a strong foundation for efficient production and lifetime profitability. With eight new Holstein sires and all the previous favorites showcasing functional type, high milk solids, and increasing milk production, their daughters are sure to exceed expectations for efficiency and profitable production in their lifetime.
Several of our current InSire genomically tested bulls have made some tremendous improvements. One of these, TOM (M-O-M x Mac), is now an udder and feet and leg improver with 2.13 UDC and 2.83 FLC, respectively. CORNELIUS (Super x Colby) is sure to produce long-lasting daughters with a PL of 6.8 and a positive DPR. For improvements in the parlor or the show ring, look no further than HUNTER (M-O-M x Shottle). With a 2409 GTPI, 1794M, and CRV management traits of 107 for temperament and 105 for lactation persistency, what’s not to like?
Our newest addition to the proven line up, PHANTASY (Fortune x Ronald), has presented strong numbers for components with 33F, 59P, and a 537 CM$. He also has presented strong health management traits with a 106 for udder health and a 102 for temperament and persistency.
Perhaps more exciting than the great production numbers seen with our existing line-up was the outstanding numbers of the new InSires this proof run. LAKEN (Freddie x Bolton) leads the pack combining type and production with a 2243 GTPI and being 1457M, 59F and 48P. GREER (Beacon x Planet) offers high and wide rear udders that are sure to be full being 1932M.
PEPPER (Altaiota x Alan) will have spicey daughters with 2257 GTPI and 2.59 type scores. Finally, our ACE (Shamrock x Goldwyn) in the hole will be just that, producing long-lasting cows with a PL of 5.2 with 1339M and 60F.
CRV’s Jersey program has kept pace with the impressive new Holstein numbers. WRANGLER (Valentino x Impuls) offers performance and functionality being 1151M, 42F, 42P, and 4.2 PL. VENDOR (Region x Paramount) is a production powerhouse at over 1200M and more than 100 pounds combined fat and protein, and is 204 JPI and 4.05 JUI.

Genex leads industry’s TPI and LNM rankings
Genex Cooperative, Inc. sires dominate the top spots on both the official Top 100 TPI and daughter-proven Lifetime Net Merit (LNM) lists. For TPI, 1HO09527 MASSEY ranks number one with 1HO08784 FREDDIE fourth and 1HO09167 O-STYLE fifth. On the LNM list, FREDDIE stands at number one with MASSEY second, 1HO08777 AWESOME third and O-STYLE fifth.
Those industry leaders are backed by 26 Genex sires over +3.0 Sire Conception Rate and eight new genomic releases over +$700 LNM. Of those eight new releases, 1HO10490 GALAXY debuts at +$866 and +2478 TPI. He’s an all-round bull with more than a ton of milk, more than 150 pounds combined Fat and Protein, +2.99 PTA Type and +2.38 UDC. 1HO10497 SAJAC is a +3.70 PTAT bull and transmits outstanding udders (+3.12 UDC) and feet and legs (+3.03 FLC).

With 6 percent Sire Calving Ease, he is an excellent fit for heifer pens. The +$722 LNM 1HO10484 LASZLO is an overall udder improver with notably strong fore udder attachments and good udder height and width. 1HO10133 RADISSON is one of the industry’s first Sebastian sons. He will produce medium-sized cows and fertile daughters that possess great longevity. HEearns a place in heifer breeding programs with his 6 percent Sire Calving Ease. Rounding out the eight new releases over +$700 LNM is 1HO10485 MUSIC MAN (Trigger x Ramos). Rockwell ranks No. 22 in the world for IPS
International Protein Sires gained prestige with the August 2012 sire summaries. The newest information on 6HO1126 Rockwell, ranked No. 22 in the world at +2111 TPI, brings added prestige to our growing lineup of proven Holstein sires.
Ranked No. 18 on the Holstein Associations’ prestigious top 100 TPI list, Rockwell comes in at +2111 TPI. His credentials include: +1,666 Milk, +2.75 Type, +2.94 FLC and + 1.70 UDC. His highly reliable proof results from daughters scattered throughout eight states, coast to coast. Rockwell is the only daughter proven bull over +2.75 in type with +134 pounds combined fat and protein.

54BS438 R N R Payoff BROOKINGS ranked in top 5 for both PPR and NM$. His daughters are calving for the third lactation, and his production proof improved to +395M, +34F, +.08 percent, +27P, +.06 percent, +4.8 PL, +1.0 DPR, 188 PPR and +509 NM$. He is also near the top of the type list at +1.0 Type, +1.1 Mobility and +1.29 UDC. SDB continues adding on to genetic offerings
Sierra Desert Breeders has been in business for five years now. We started in August 2007 with five Holstein bulls. Today, we have 37 Holstein bulls, seven Jersey bulls, one Brown Swiss bull, one Angus bull and one Normande bull on our pricelist – all with the 506 NAAB code.
Sierra Desert Breeders is very committed to our proven program and believe that our customers will be best served with highly proven bulls, with daughters in many commercial herds. We are very confident that our program and the bulls we have to offer meet every dairyman’s criteria.
The August run was an “add-on” to the April run. All of our original bulls added many daughters and are well over 90 percent Reliability. Almost all of them increased in production.
Proven bulls, like 506H151 Heirloom, 506H114 Revolution, 506H116 Big Daddy and 506H115 Challenger, not only increased a lot of milk, but also deliver in solid type.
Proven Type improvers, like 506H153 Theo, 506H223 Suntan and 506H155 Shyster, will give the dairyman cows that will be around for a long time and have a high sale value.
For conception, no bull is better than 506H109 Oslo. The data we collect on the dairy through DairyComp 305 shows he beats every bull in the breed. Also, more than half of our bulls are 7 percent calving ease or less with 82 percent Reliability.
In the genomics area, bulls like 506H247 Froggy (10.1 PL), 506H250 Castaway (904 CM$) and 506H249 Mr Big (PTAT 3.77) are going to be shining stars. A great example of our philosophy is our new genomic bull 506H700 Barney. He is a Snowman son out of the famous Regancrest Barbie family. With a great genomic proof, he will be very popular.
As far as our Jersey bulls, 506J171 Bellringer now has 3483 daughters in his proof and is +200 Milk and 1.7 PTAT.

From the family of 7HO9545 Siemers Toys HERO 9701-ET (EX-92) comes another type specialist in 7HO9841 Siemers Shottle HULK-ET (EX-93). At +2.90 PTAT and +1,229 Milk, he can deliver in any management setting. Another highly reliable graduate, he sires cows that milk well and look great doing it with high-ranking +2.36 UDC and +2.60 FLC.
7HO10000 Big APPLE-RED-ET, the No. 1 Red & White TPI bull, is a calving ease Talent son of the All-American and world champion KHW Regiment Apple-Red-ET (EX-95-2E-EX-MS-DOM) and sires exceptional Type (+2.53) and components (+.32percentF, +.18percentP).
